Rhodes

COMTEMPORARY+SUSTAINABILITY

Nestled in the heart of a quaint residential street, lined with mature trees, this house is set back from the street line and perched on a slight slope overlooking the pedestrian movement below. The house speaks its own language with a balanced blend of shigeru ban siding and corrugated steel wrapping the roof. Rhodes stands confidently on its own while blending seamlessly with the streetscape and speaking volumes of the artistic eccentricity and creative spirits of those who call it home.

Rhodes, designed for artistic clients that dreamed of bringing their work home. The house serves as a canvas for their work and sanctuary for their creative pursuits. High ceilings create oversized walls that double as backdrops for their art to flourish. Rhodes embraces the simplest details without overpowering the senses, which is essential for the client and their collaborators.

Windows, Doors and skylights were strategically placed for privacy and to encourage passive heating in the winter months and passive cooling in the hotter months. In-floor heating covers all three floors from the basement to the second floor and grounds the house in warmth. The sunken garden in the front yard creates a peaceful courtyard with access from the cozy basement walkout. Skylights above allow light to flood the second floor with natural light. Exposed structural beams, reading nooks and the primary suite lookout interplay beautifully to create a space built for creativity and tranquility
